What information do I need to provide to commission a map?
The information I’ll need varies widely depending on the nature of your project.  In general, it will help me to know what geographic regions you want your maps to depict, and as much as you can share about the specific places you'd like labeled.
That said, if you don't have all this information available yet, that's not a problem!  Some clients come in knowing exactly what they want their maps to show, while others have a more loosely defined vision of the end goal.  Wherever you are in the design process, I’m happy to work with you to produce maps that meet your needs, and you’re always welcome to contact me to discuss your ideas for the project.

Do you offer free consultations?
Yes!  I am happy to provide a free, 30-minute consultation via Google Meet, Zoom, or phone to discuss your mapping project and see if I’m a good fit for what you need.  I can also answer shorter inquiries by email.

How much does it cost to make a map?
The costs for producing a map vary widely depending on what a client is looking for.  I am committed to providing high-quality cartography within your budget: in general, the simpler the map and the more of the underlying geospatial data you provide, the lower the price.
My cost estimates are all-inclusive and cover initial drafting of your maps, any revisions (within reason) that you’d like to make after seeing drafts, and all licensing and publication fees.

How long does it take to produce a map?
I typically schedule the delivery of first drafts within 2-3 weeks (actual delivery is often sooner).  After you've had a chance to review the drafts, I am usually able to make any requested revisions and deliver final versions in a week or less.  That said, I am happy to accommodate rush orders, and while I encourage you to contact me as soon as possible if you're considering ordering maps, I can typically work within your deadlines.

Can you produce map applications and other digital products?
Yes!  I can produce interactive, online maps using Leaflet (an open-source code library) as well as several commercially available platforms such as ArcGIS Online and Google Earth.

Can I hire you as a researcher, trainer, or consultant?
Yes!  In addition to cartographic production, I work with clients at any stage in the development of digital, geospatial projects.  Whether you’re working on an interdisciplinary research project or introducing your students to historical map collections, I’m here to help!

Do you offer any discounts?
Yes!  I offer discounts for bulk orders, as well as to graduate students and charitable organizations.
